As Gallatin County continues to grow and evolve, our demographics are changing as a region. One shift is the increasing number of Hispanic neighbors contributing to the rich cultural fabric of our region. Our next In Our Backyard session will explore the significance of this demographic change and why it matters to us all.
Dr. Sally Moyce from Montana State University will present data on these demographic shifts and address resource gaps for these populations. Vanessa Zamora, from Bienvenidos a Gallatin Valley, will share her firsthand experiences working with Spanish-speaking residents, the challenges they face, and the strengths they bring to our broader community. Together, we will discuss how your philanthropy can create a more inclusive and supportive community for all who call Gallatin County home.
About the Presenters
Dr. Sally Moyce Associate Professor | College of Nursing at Montana State University
With a focus on public health, Dr. Sally Moyce’s research centers on vulnerable populations, particularly immigrant and Spanish-speaking communities in the United States. Dr. Moyce has dedicated much of her career to studying the health impacts of social determinants, such as housing, employment, and access to healthcare, on these groups.
Her work has earned recognition for its data-driven approach to addressing health disparities and advocating for equitable healthcare access. Dr. Moyce is also an active participant in community initiatives that promote health education and resource accessibility for underserved populations. She continues to influence local and national conversations about immigrant health and well-being through her research and advocacy. Dr. Sally Moyce founded and directs the Immigrant Health Lab at Montana State University Bozeman where researchers strive to reduce health disparities for underserved communities.
Vanessa Zamora Executive Director | Bienvenidos a Gallatin Valley
Born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, Vanessa moved to the United States at 17 to pursue higher education, eventually establishing her roots in Montana in 2016. With degrees in Psychology and Business Administration, she has worked with the MSU Leadership Institute, where she created and led numerous leadership development programs for students, staff, and faculty. Vanessa co-founded and chairs "English Para Todos," a nonprofit providing accessible education to adult English learners, and has worked with Montana Language Services as a Spanish-English interpreter. In her free time, she teaches Latin dance with Sizzling Salsa, a local group enriching Bozeman's cultural scene. She has also served on the board of "We are HER," a local nonprofit, contributing her skills in philanthropy, event management, strategic planning, and leadership training to various community initiatives. Committed to cultural understanding and community involvement, Vanessa works closely with the Spanish-speaking community to advance Bienvenidos' mission and enhance its programs and impact.
