November 12th – “Tools for Difficult Conversations” conversation led by Shannon Stober of the Verve Exchange
A difficult conversation is one in which the positions and needs of the people involved appear to be in conflict, and are generally associated with emotions running high. Successfully navigating these conversations isn’t just about courage; it’s about awareness, process, and tact. During this session, participants will be introduced to the Four T’s of a difficult conversation, including timing, tone, technique, and truth. Specific topics covered include non-verbal communication, giving and receiving feedback, and engaging in generative dialogue using inquiry and advocacy. At the conclusion of the session participants will have the ability to:
Exercise congruent communication skills.
Develop and deliver effective feedback messages.
Engage in generative dialogue using inquiry and advocacy.
Safety Precautions: As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, One Valley will follow CDC guidelines for our programming to do our part to help keep our community safe and healthy. This month, we will be meeting in person for Nonprofit Cafe and we ask all participants to agree to the following safety precautions when joining us:
All participants must wear a mask at all times, regardless of vaccination status, unless they are actively eating or drinking.
Masks must be worn over both your mouth and nose.
If you are feeling sick at all, please do not attend.
Registration is mandatory and will be limited to 50 participants to ensure space for social distancing.
We reserve the right to transition this to a virtual training if necessary.
If you are not comfortable following the safety precautions, please take a look at the upcoming events calendar and join instead for an upcoming virtual training. Thank you!
